Principal’s welcome

I would like extend a warm welcome to you and your family to Mitchelton State School and look forward to sharing with you the important task of educating your child.

We value the history and traditions of our school and work towards achieving our motto of ‘Nothing but the Best' each and every day. Our great school has been educating children since 1916 and celebrated its Centenary in 2016, achieving Excellence in Teaching and Learning.

At Mitchelton State School we are proud of our students and their achievements and work cooperatively with all members of our school community to ensure that respect between students and staff is central to harmony and success in the classroom. Our staff, students, families, P&C Association and School Council are committed to providing a friendly and supportive school environment that allows students to achieve their potential and work together as a team, building relationships that foster a positive learning environment. Our priority always remain on the child, through a continued focus on student success and wellbeing and through working together in strong partnerships with families.

We provide consistent programs incorporating meaningful learning experiences that empower students to be engaged and take responsibility for their learning while continually improving. Our students are confident and proud of their achievements. They develop leadership skills and understand the advantages of working together as a team to achieve their academic, sporting and creative goals. We set and maintain high standards, communicate and explicitly teach our behaviour expectations and virtues to ensure learning behaviours support academic success and ensure consistency between home and school.

We have well established partnerships that enhance aspects of our schooling, these include local high schools, community groups such as Picabeen, local businesses, CSIRO Scientist and Mathematicians in Residence Program and also the CSIRO ICT in Schools Partnership Program.

Our great school boasts many terrific facilities including an inviting 25 m 6 lane pool with covered grandstand, state of the art Resource Centre, modern hall with lighting and stage, three expansive oval/play spaces, music programs, science clubs, sporting programs and much more.

In 2013, community and staff collaboratively decided to become an Independent Public School (IPS). As an IPS school we have greater autonomy in decision making processes to enhance student learning.   Our staff and students are proud to be part of the team that is Mitchelton State School - a leading Independent Public School.

I hope that this website and our school information documents will answer many of the questions you have about how your child will enter into school life. I invite you to visit the school, to get to know the staff and other parents because it is by developing a close relationship between parents and staff that we can achieve the very best for our children.

Welcome to our school.
